Summer Reading
Where are the lazy days of summer? My husband is a builder, so these certainly aren’t his lazy days. With kids out of school I am running around to different camps and scrambling to keep up with work and stuff around the house. I am thrilled to be stepping into my flip flops every day but I have to remind myself to slow down before summer has come and gone.
One of my greatest pleasures is sitting in the hammock with a good book. I bought “El Deafo” by Cece Bell for my seven year old yesterday and gave it to her while she was playing on the hammock. There was a smile on my face as she opened it up and stretched out.
I have been stocking up on summer reads at Royal River Books in the hopes that others will find some hammock time. I recently discovered Diane Chamberlain who has authored some great summer reads like, “Silent Sister” and “The Secret Life of CeeCee Wilkes”. “Circling the Sun” by Paula McLain has just come out in paperback and, if you haven’t read it already, “Me Before You” is a great hammock read. I invite you to stop by and browse our new selections or ask one of our lovely staff members for a recommendation.
We have also stocked up on the required summer reading books for Yarmouth High School and North Yarmouth Academy. We have plenty of copies of “The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind”, “A Prayer for Owen Meany”, “In Cold Blood” and others. All of the required summer reading books are in the front of the store.
Summer is a great time for kids to read for enjoyment. We have some fun new graphic novels and exciting new releases for young readers. Check out “The Wild Robot’, “Wolf Hollow”, “Pax”, and “The War that Saved My Life” when you get a chance.
I hope you all have a great summer and we hope to see you soon!
