Happy Anniversary!
Well, it has been three years since Royal River Books opened for business. I didn’t save my first dollar bill, but I do remember my first customer. She came in the door and asked if I had The Red Tent by Anita Diamant (a personal favorite). I was pleased as punch to pull it off my newly stocked shelf. We proceeded to chat about the book, which she was buying as a gift. I thoroughly enjoyed my first transaction and was thrilled about having a small, local bookstore in the friendly little town of Yarmouth.
A lot can happen in three years. Three months after opening I found out I was pregnant. This was not in my business plan. I had fantasies about the baby hanging out in a pack ‘n play all day long while I continued to help customers looking for a good book. Um, it didn’t really work out that way.
I am now the mother of two and, unfortunately, do not get to spend a lot of time behind the counter at Royal River Books. Since I shamelessly use my children in my advertising campaign, I still interact with a lot of customers around town. It always brings a smile to my face to hear someone say, “Oh, your daughter is getting so big! I see her every week in the Notes.” I am hoping to have a lot of eyes watching out for her when she reaches adolescence!
I wanted to take this opportunity to thank all of my wonderful customers for your support and business. I am grateful to have met so many wonderful people through the bookstore and look forward to spending more time there when the kiddos get a little older. I would also like to thank my wonderful friends and co-workers, Becky, Heather, Karen & Susie. They have been doing a great job holding down the fort while I am deep into dirty diapers and sleep training.
Thanks again and I hope to see you soon!
